REI Co-op, the specialty outdoor retailer is launching a new race series, Dirt, Sweat & Beers, a 5K/10K run and do-it-yourself (DIY) cleanup series featuring eight events from June through November from the Sierra to the Bay Area.

Every Dirt, Sweat & Beers event is open for 60 days and features a 5K and 10K open race—a GPS course that allows participants to complete courses on their own schedule, while virtually competing against other runners—and a DIY cleanup. Just like a live race, times are validated, and names populated onto a leaderboard. Participants can run the course as many times as they’d like within the event period to get their best time. Runners are encouraged to complete the DIY cleanup before, during or after the course. Participants can run and cleanup all trails or select a few in the Dirt, Sweat & Beers series.

Three competition categories are available for runners: woman, man and open gender. In partnership with event sponsors, Sierra Nevada, Salomon, Kuju Coffee and HydraPak, REI is providing multiple run and DIY cleanup kit options at registration to meet the needs of first-time and returning runners. Prizes will also be given out for top finishers of each course and an overall winner (individual who ran the most unique courses) of the series in each category.
